Painting 8th (Belgian) Hussar Regiment
from Baccus in 6mm
A quick guide to how I painted my 6mm 8th (Belgian) Hussar Regiment for Waterloo using Baccus Dutch Belgian Light Cavalry (NDB8).
Note that this pack contains officers wearing the French-style "stovepipe" shako and other ranks / trumpeters in the "bell-topped" shako. As such they can be used to represent the Belgian Light Cavalry regiments - 5th Light Dragoons and 8th Hussars. They cannot be used to represent the Dutch regiments - 4th Light Dragoons and 6th Hussars - as their officers used the "bell-topped" shako like the other ranks.
1. Undercoat – Citadel Abaddon Black
Paint the undercoat in black and let dry completly.
2. Blue – Citadel Regal Blue
Paint the jacket, trousers, shako and shabraque blue. Apply the paint by drybrushing using a Citadel Medium Drybrush. Use a stiff paint mixture on the drybrush wiping off any extra on a cloth before use. Run the brush along the surface of the figures, leaving paint on the raised areas, but allowing the black undercoat to show through. It doesn't matter if you even cover other areas such as face, musket or knapsack.
3. Blue – Citadel Enchanted Blue
Repeat the above drybrushing using the lighter blue shade.
4. Red – Citadel Blood Red
Facings: collar and cuffs. It doesn’t matter if you paint the collar too wide and cover part of the face.
5. Brown – Citadel Doombull Brown
Paint the hair. It doesn’t matter if you paint the hair too wide and cover part of the shako.
6. Flesh – Humbrol 61 Matt Flesh
Face and hands. It doesn’t matter if you paint the face too wide and cover part of the shako.
7. Grey – Citadel Administratum Grey
Breeches.
8. Blue – Enchanted Blue
Shako and shabraque.
9. White – Citadel Skull White
Piping round the shako, piping round the shabraque and cross belt.
10. Black - Citadel Abaddon Black
Sabretache and boots.
11. Silver - Citadel Runefang Steel
Sword, Scabbard, Badge on shako, Badge on Sabretache
12. Brown
The Horse.
13. Earth – Citadel Graveyard Earth
The Base.
14. Matt Varnish
15. Special Notes
Officers have silver piping round the shako and shabraque.
They had a red Sabretache instead od black.
The trumpeter has reversed colours (red jacket with blue facings and a red shako).
